Half Marathon #2 - check.

I did a lot of stuff yesterday...I'm still feeling the effects of it. Probably from my early morning workout...or what I will now refer to as a long workout. Susan, my good friend, and I met up with some friends and completed a half marathon. I was kinda hoping that we wouldn't be doing it, but Susan wanted to so we left the Seattle area around 5am to be in Olympia by 6:30. It was an early morning. The long workout lasted 3:37 minutes or so...I walked the whole thing. Normally I would try a run/walk interval, but the last half marathon wasn't that long ago (4/13) and I injured my foot. I hadn't trained very hard for the marathon yesterday so I played it safe. I'm feeling pretty good about it.

The Group

Here's a shot of the group of us. Kari (in the blue) did the full marathon, while the rest of us did the half.

Birthdays, Little Girls, and Wishes

Today was one of those days that just make you smile. Maggie celebrated her 7th birthday - she got to invite 3 friends to a rollerskating party. I gotta tell you, that alone made me smile...well, laugh. There was nothing more enjoyable than watching those girls skate around the rink. After skating, we headed back to Maggie's house for pizza. There was the requisite present opening, and cake and ice cream. But more than that, we all got to hang out with friends, watch kids have fun, and wish that maybe we could have birthday parties like this. It's days like this that delight me in being a part of a child's life.

Xanadu

Maggie skated so well in her new skates. By the end of the session, she was proficient at moving around the rink. Next up for her? Xanadu III.

Skating Instructions

Most of the skating time was spent in a predictable way: skate, fall, get up, repeat until done. Seriously, this was so much fun to watch.

Going full force

This girl totally cracked me up. She went at skating like running a race; she went full force and took John for a spill more than once.

Skating Friends

It's a lot easier to skate w/ a buddy.

Grandma & Grandpa

So while everyone was out rollerskating, I was holding down the fort w/ Grandma & Grandpa. No sense in going skating when I have NO sense of balance. I have a long list of examples which proves my uncanny ability to fall off of anything with wheels (including skateboards, rollerskates, rollerblades, and a razor). It's a wonder I can ride a bike. Instead of skating, I took pictures.
